The mountain Mateo 5150 m is part of the massif of Contrahierbas, connected by a hill to the old pass and road connecting the city and Chacas, called Punta Olímpica at 4680 m. The mountain Mateo is one of the most accessible in the city of Huaraz.

Day 01: Huaraz - Olympic Point 4680 m. - Mateo Summit 5150 m. – Huaraz
Our departure from the city of Huaraz by private transportation is approximately 3:00 am. With a destiny to the north arriving until Carhuaz, the trip continues by the highway that goes to Chacas, passing by the town of Shilla, then it is entered the valley of Ulta, arriving at the tunnel of Olympic Point. It is there where we prepare the equipment for the ascent to the mountain. The ascent is through the rocky part of the moraine and finally, we will continue the glacier climb to the summit. From there you can enjoy a panoramic view of the peaks of the Cordillera Blanca such as the South Huascaran, Chopicalqui, Contrahierbas, and Ulta and among others. Then we will return to Punta Olimpica, where the transportation will be waiting for us to take us to Huaraz.
Recommendations:
- If you want to do this type of climbing, it is necessary to acclimatize previously for several days and be in good physical/technical conditions.
