Why trust in Peruvian Andean Explorer?

What is the age limit to travel?

We consider that there is no age limit for travel, recommended for all ages.

What equipment do I need to bring?

It depends a lot on the type of activity to do (walking/climbing), but I considered the collective equipment of the agency (overnight tents, toilet tent, kitchen tent, dining tent, chairs, tables, cooking equipment). We consider that the sleeping bag must be adequate to support the adversities of the climate, depending on the activity to take, medicines related to your health, identity documents, life, and travel insurance. For more security, check the list of equipment to bring in the package to take.

Do I need to carry cash during the walk/climb?

We recommend that you bring cash (national currency), which you could buy on the way (drinks, crafts, others).

Do I need to be in good physical condition before taking the hike/climbing service?

Yes, the first step of training is to raise your level of physical condition before taking any of the activities, because climbing a mountain is not an easy task and you may have all the equipment you need, but if your body cannot support the pressure and stress, then you will not be able to complete your trip. You need to understand that you are navigating a terrain of loose rocks soaking in glacier ice as well as managing your way through possibly bad weather and strong winds.

What equipment do I need to take with me during the hike/climb?

A small backpack containing: you’re waterproof jacket and pants (Gore-Tex), water bottle (minimum 1 liter), sunglasses, sunscreen, flashlight, extra battery, pocket knife, camera, sanitary towels, your first aid kit and others that you consider important.

Can I find rental equipment (hiking/climbing) in Huaraz?

Yes, but they are small stores in which you can find some mountain equipment for rent, but we do not have big mountain stores to buy equipment.

What is the official currency in Peru?

The official currency is the Peruvian sol, the exchange rate may vary. We recommend that you exchange your currency in downtown Huaraz.

How do I get to Huaraz from Lima?

There are two possibilities:
By bus, it is approximately 8 hours Lima-Huaraz and Huaraz-Lima either day or night. The companies considered as tourists are: Cruz Del Sur, Móvil Tours, and Oltursa.

By Flight (LATAM):
There are flights from Lima-Huaraz and Huaraz-Lima, usually taking about one hour in flight.

Should I bring extra batteries?

Yes, since these activities take several days, it is necessary to have extra batteries to recharge: cameras, cell phones, flashlights, music players and other digital devices belonging to you.

Will the altitude affect me?

Generally, the body adapts to the lower concentration of oxygen at a specific altitude. The process is known as acclimatization and generally takes between one and three days to acclimatize to a specific altitude. This is why it is advisable to acclimatize for at least two days in Huaraz.

What happens if I get sick during the activity (walking/climbing)?

Our staff is fully trained in first aid care, for any case. But if your case becomes serious the evacuation is immediate, to a closer health facility. The expenses generated during the transfer and evacuation are the responsibility of the client.
